Some unsourced family trees claim that Henry Hudson was an English immigrant, but I have seen no proof, although he may have arrived as an indentured servant. In Northumberland County Court on March 18th, 1685 an indentured servant named Hen. Hudson was ordered to serve his master, Mr. Jno Coutansheau for six years and no longer by the consent of both parties. This may be the same Henry and would be the earliest record I have found, I have not seen a record of Henry Hudson being transported to the colony.
An early record that is surely for Henry Hudson shows that in January 1695 Henry and his wife Elizabeth, the widow of John Trussell, were ordered to prepare an inventory of the Trussell estate before the next court. In March of the same year Rodham Kenner and Thomas Bushrod were ordered to oversee an auction of the Trussell estate and divide to proceeds between Henry Hudson and Elizabeth and the children of John Trussell.
Henry's wife Elizabeth, was Elizabeth Chinn daughter of John Chinn and Elizabeth Travers. Henry and Elizabeth were married before 1695. For many years Elizabeth and Henry were thought to have had two sons, Robert and Thomas. Later Y-DNA research by Hudson family members revealed that descendants of the brothers came from different paternal lines. Robert is now believed to the son of Elizabeth's first husband, John Trussell, because current Hudsons and Trussells are receiving matching Y-DNA results. It is possible that Henry gave Robert his name or that Elizabeth was very early in her pregnancy and remarried so soon after John's death that Henry Hudson really thought that Robert was his son.
