Hutchinson's Farm

Hutchinson's Farm is a tract of land containing about 40 acres off of Little Bay Road near White Stone in Lancaster County. The farm boarders Enon Hall to the south and Tabbs Creek on the north. Hutchinson's has been in the Dameron family since the 1960's. The farm is named for Ernest Temple Hutchinson, the man who owned the farm for nearly 50 years before the Dameron family.

E.T. Hutchinson was born in Essex County in 1879 to Frederick Martron Hutchinson, a Civil War veteran of Company F, 17th Regiment, Virginia Infantry, and Rosa Lee “Rosie” Riley. He married Maria Clementine Sanders in 1903. According to a mention in the Northern Neck News in 1904 E.T. Hutchinson was the manager of the Wilner Farm in Richmond County, and based on his corn crop the newspaper dubbed him, "our king farmer." In late 1908 or early 1909 Ernest and Clementine left Richmond County and purchased a farm near White Stone. According to Dameron family lore the home they built was ordered from a magazine as a kit and delivered by boat. The Hutchinson's had three children when they moved and then five more were born at their new farm including Lois Hutchinson, who married Earl Dameron (no immediate relation to our Dameron line) and had a home on a small lot cut off of the farm until their deaths.

In their later years when they were in poor health, Ernest and Clementine moved in with children in Silver Spring, Maryland. Clementine died in 1963 and Ernest in 1966, they are buried at Rappahannock Baptist Church in Richmond County.

The farm was purchased by Elton Dameron and he kept a hog farming operation there. The old farmhouse quickly deteriorated and was eventually used for hay storage. When it became a safety hazard the old house was taken down. Presently the farm is owned by Mark Dameron and the barn lot serves as the storage and supply yard for his hauling business.
