Mary Garner was born in Northumberland County before 1666. She was the daughter of John Garner the immigrant and Susannah Keene.

Mary wed first to George Courtnell but he died before they had any children. She married secondly to John Lewis and had five children. In February 1683 John and Mary petitioned to court for an additional share of land in George Courtnell's estate beyond the third that was due to Mary but the plea was dismissed. John died about 1697. County records show that his will was probated on May 19th, 1697, but the will book for that year was destroyed in a fire at the courthouse. Mary married for a third time to Richard Price and had one more son. Richard died in 1724.

Mary wrote a will on December 26th, 1724. She left to John "one warming pan which was his fathers, to be in full of his part of my whole estate for it hath pleased God to bless him with a plentiful estate." James received one feather bed and furniture. The children of her son William who predeceased her were given gold rings and livestock. Grandson Pemberton Claughton, son of Anne, was given one heifer. Granddaughter Mary Dameron, daughter of Joseph Dameron was given Mary's wearing apparel. Grandson Lewis Toon, son of Elizabeth, was left 5,000 pounds of tobacco to be paid when he turned 21. To her youngest son, Arjalon Price, Mary gave a slave woman named Betty and all the rest of her estate. Mary was able to write and sign her own name.

Mary's will was proven April 20th, 1726 in Northumberland County court.

Mary is our ancestor along two lines. Her daughter Elizabeth was a 5th great grandmother to Laura Alice Sisson through the Tune and Gordon families. Her daughter Anne was also a 5th great grandmother of Laura Alice through the Claughton and Cralle lines.
