He was a vestryman, sheriff and Colonel of the militia in Gloucester County
Court records from York County in 1646 list Richard as a guardian. In July, 1652 Richard patented "200 acres on the eastward side of the north river in Mockjack Bay: Beg.g &c. on the river side of Mr. Curtis' land, near the Black Water Creekes mouth. In September of that same year he patented another 1,100 acres in the same area. In 1654 Rector Thomas Sax of Lancaster County left cattle to "Richard Dudley, second son of Edward Dudley." Richard was made sheriff in Gloucester and Middlesex in 1657.
Richard filed additional land patents in Gloucester County in 1659, 1665, 1667, 1672 and 1674 totaling over 2,000 acres. In 1667 he was elected to the vestry of Kingston Parish in Gloucester. In 1679 Richard was appointed a Colonel in Gloucester County militia.
Richard is thought to have died in Gloucester about 1687. No county will or probate records from the colonial era have survived.
