Lawrence Dameron, Jr.
Lawrence Dameron >> William Dameron >> William Dameron >> Christopher Dameron >> Leroy Dameron >> Richard Dameron >> Elton Dameron >> Ralph Dameron >> Mark DameronIn early January of 1708 Northumberland County court orders mention that Lawrence Dameron has "land adjoining John Claughton in Mattapony Neck, St. Stephens Parish."2 This ia likely land originally patented by Lawrence the immigrant. The name Mattapony Neck is no longer used, it may have been area between Mill Creek and Lodge Creek. The bordering South Yeocomico River was once known as the Mattapony River.3
Lawrence, Jr. was listed in his father's will later in 1708. "I give unto my son Laurence one cow and calf besides what I have already given him, caryed to his plantation." Bartholomew also gave to his other son, Josiah, "The remainder part of my land in Mattapony from his brother Laurence up the Neck," he also gave Josiah pasture rights with Lawrence for seven years.4
Court orders from 1718 mention the dwelling of Lawrence Dameron and his wife Jane.5 It appears that they only had one child, a son. In 1724 Lawrence signed a petition asking Northumberland County to recognize the Presbyterian Church.6 Lawrence died before March 17th, 1731. On that date William Caron testified that Lawrence had died without a will and applied to become administrator of his estate.7 Jane's fate is unknown, but she may have been deceased by that date as well. Their son, William, was eventually put in the custody of Lawrence's brother, Christopher.8 An inventory of Lawrence's estate was returned on April 21st, 1731, but the record book for that year appears to have been lost.9
