Robert Self immigrated from England in the 1650's with his wife Mary. In October 1661 Mary was ordered to court in the suit of Thomas Shawe. Shawe did not appear and was ordered to pay Robert Self 50 pounds of tobacco. Mary died sometime after that and Robert remarried to Jane, possibly Bradshaw
In 1665 Robert was granted 300 acres in Westmoreland County for the transport of six people to the colony. In 1704 Robert gave to his sons John and William 120 acres in Yecomico Forest, a portion of his former 300 acre grant. In 1707 Robert's son Stephen was granted 100 acres bordering on his father's property near the orchard fence. In 1710 sons William and brother John were granted "90 acres beginning at the north westernmost corner tree of the land of Robert Self thence on the northwest side of the little pond falling into Nominy branches."
Robert Self wrote his will on June 18th, 1716 and was able to sign his own name. He left 80 acres of land to grandson Walter Self, land to son Stephen, a chest to son John. He left the residue of his estate to wife Jane and named her as executor of his estate. The will was proven in Westmoreland County court on March 27, 1717.
In 2004 a memorial stone was placed in the Yecomico Churchyard in honor of Robert Self. I do not know if he is believed to be buried there.
