On that date John and Ruth purchased 50 acres of land for 30 pounds from the estate of her father. The deed was drawn between four of Ruth's sisters and their husbands to John. In a similar deed made up just months later John and his brother-in-laws sold a 60 acre parcel out of the estate to the husband of another one of Ruth's siblings.
According to the Register of St. Stephen's Parish in Northumberland, John and Ruth had seven children. Only five children were named in John's will. John was recorded as the head of family in Northumberland in 1782.
