Epaphroditus Sydnor

Epaphroditus married about 1735 to Mary Webb, possibly the daughter of Giles Webb and Elizabeth. Epaphroditus and Mary had at least eight children. Most of the names and birthdates of their children were recorded in the register of North Farnham Parish.

In 1741 Epaphroditus witnessed the will of John Hartgroves of St. Stephens Parish in Northumberland. In 1751 he named by Richmond County to survey a road.

Epaphroditus predeceased his father. He wrote a will on February 20th, 1756 and it was proven on May 3rd, of 1756. Epaphroditus left three slaves, one fourth of his livestock, one forth of his household furniture, half of the houses and land on the plantation he lived on and one mare colt to his wife Mary to use the rest of her life as long as she remained a widow. He wrote that on the day she died or married all of the property should be divided equally between their eight named children. Epaphroditus left the plantation he lived on to his son William and a tract of land he purchased in Amelia County to his son Isaac. He asked the the remainder of his estate be divided equally between his eight children and that each child should receive their share when they came of age. He named his son John as executor of the will.

An inventory of Epaphroditus' estate was made on June 5th, 1756. His livestock included two horses, one yoke of oxen, 14 cows, two yearlings, four calves, two bulls, five steers, four sows, nine pigs, three barrows, 21 young hogs, 13 ewes and 11 lambs. He also owned five hives of bees. Included in his household items were carpenters, coopers and shoemakers tools, nine old books and a pair of money scales. The inventory also listed 14 slaves by name.
