The 1880 census shows Morgan's parents and all four of the children, ages; 9,7,6 and 1. John Emory Haynie is listed as a farmer and marked as being sick the day of the census. They were living in the Mantua district of Lancaster.
Morgan married Sadie Viola Marsh on Christmas Day 1895, their marriage license was issued the previous day by Northumberland County. She was the daughter of Isaac Henry Marsh and Mary Jane Marsh. They had 15 children between 1896 and 1921, eleven lived to adulthood.
The 1900 census lists him as Morgan J. Haynie. He and Sadie are shown as being married for three years and having two children. His occupation is given as a farmer and blacksmith. He is shown as owning his home mortgage free. The family was listed in the Mantua district of Lancaster.
The 1910 census shows the family in the same census district. Morgan is listed as a blacksmith. He and Sadie are shown as having eight children with six still living.
In 1918 Morgan filled out a draft card for WWI. He described his height and build as average, his eyes as gray and hair as dark. He said he was a farmer. The 1920 census shows Morgan as a general store merchant, still in the Mantua area. The oldest children have started moving out, nine children are listed as living at home.
In 1930 Morgan's wife, Sadie, is shown as living with their daughter, Viola, and her family a couple houses down. Morgan still has six children living with him, plus Izola's husband and two children. His occupation was given as a home carpenter. Sadie died several months later in November of 1930 and was buried at Lebanon Baptist Church.
Morgan began working for the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) on or before September of 1936. The CCC was a program for young men created as part of the New Deal after the Great Depression. Morgan worked at the camp in Baynesville, Westmoreland. He was listed as either a foreman or blacksmith in all of the issues of the camp newspaper. Morgan was listed in the 1940 census in the CCC camp as a foreman. His salary was $1,680. He was listed as a federally employed blacksmith. His highest level of education was given as second grade. Besides the 10 person CCC work crew the only other people on the census page were the family of Zachariah C. Dameron who was listed as park custodian. The CCC program ended in 1942.
Morgan died May 12, 1946. His cause of death was myocarditis, inflammation of the middle layer of the heart wall. He was buried at Lebanon Church on May 14th. Morgan died without a will, his estate was administered by his son Basye.
