The Royal Ancestry of Henry Fleet
Henry Fleet arrived in Jamestown, Virginia in 1621. He survived a massacre when a trade mission failed and was held hostage by the Native Americans for many years. After his release he became a successful trader and contributed to the founding of both Maryland and Virginia.
Henry Fleet is notable not just because of his deeds in life but because of his family history. He is a "gateway ancestor," an immigrant to colonial America connected to the aristocracy that has descended from royalty and nobility. Henry had both royal and noble connections that have been traced back hundreds of years before his lifetime. He was the 12th great-grandson of King Edward I, who can be traced back through the Plantagenet and Normandie Monarchs. Henry Fleet has also been verified to have descended from at least two of the 25 Magna Carta surety barons.

Magna Carta Surety Barons
On June 15th, 1215 John Plantagenet, King of England, signed the "Great Charter" along with 25 barons to set certain limits on the authority of the king. The document became foundational to English law and by extension law in the American colonies because of it's recogization of individual liberties.
The Magna Carta Project has verified two connections to William Malet and William Huntingfield for Henry Fleet. Connections to at least seven more of the signers are possible because of Henry Fleet's well documented ancestry and deep connections to the aristocracy, those include; John de Lacy, Gilbert de Clare, Richard de Clare, Saher de Quincy, Robert de Vere, Hugh le Bigod and Roger le Bigod.
