Jane Wyatt
Jane Wyatt >> Deborah Scott >> Henry Fleet >> Henry Fleet >> Judith Fleet >> Sarah Hobson >> William Fallin >> Thomas Fallin >> Jeremiah Fallin >> Richard Fallin >> Mildred Fallin >> Elton Dameron >> Ralph Dameron >> Mark DameronSir Thomas was knighted around the time of Jane's birth. He was a soldier and had been given a commission to lead 100 men in England's war with France. He sat on King Edward VI's parliament, and in 1550 was Sheriff of Kent. After King Edward's death Thomas Wyatt initially claimed to support Mary I, but later joined in the rebellion against her when she announced her plans to marry King Philip of Spain. Thomas raised a force in Kent and marched on London Bridge. He was captured and eventually beheaded after being held in the Tower of London. Because he was charged with treason his lands and title were taken by the crown. Queen Mary paid Jane Haute an annuity of 200 marks as an act of compassion and returned a small portion of her lands. When Elizabeth I came to power in 1558 she reversed the remaining penalties against the family of Sir Thomas Wyatt.
Jane married Charles Scott about 1562. He was the son of Sir Reginald Scott and Mary Tuke. Sir Reginald Scott had been Sheriff of Kent. He left land to Charles in his will from 1554 in Snave and Ivechurch, Kent. Jane and Charles had seven children.
Charles wrote his will on March 14th, 1595 and it was proven on April 17th, 1696. Jane wrote her will on June 13th, 1613. She died before March 3rd, 1617. On that date she was buried at Godmersham. Her will was proven April 17th, 1617.
Jane's nephew, Francis Wyatt, by her brother, George, was named governor of Virginia in 1621. It is thought that her grandson, Henry Fleet traveled to the colony for the first time with Francis Wyatt.
