Residents of his household listed were; one male under 5, two males 5-9, one male 10-14, one male 15-19, one male 50-59, one female 10-14, one female 15-19, one female 20-29 and one female 40-49. The census also counted that four people were working in agriculture, and one was employed in "Navigation on the ocean." One person over 20 is listed as not being about to read.
The 1850 census lists Parker, 60, and Elizabeth, 54, in Accomack County. Parker works as a farmer and his real estate is valued at $500. Elizabeth is listed as not being able to read or write. Three sons live with them in addition to a daughter and her spouse named John Taylor. A three year old boy names Revel P. Middleton also lives with them. Their son John P. Barnes lives in the next listed dwelling. Parker was listed on the 1850 Agricultural schedule as owning 8 acres of land and farming tools worth $20. He owned two milk cows, one working ox and three other cattle. He also had a dozen pigs. The livestock was valued at $88. He was marked as producing 100 bushels of Indian corn.
The 1860 census in Accomack lists Parker as age 73 and still working in farming. His real estate was still valued at $500 and a personal estate of $800 is also listed. His wife Elizabeth, age 66, and Revel P. Middleton, age 13 are the only other residents of his household. The agricultural schedule that year still listed 8 acre in Parker's possession. He owned one milk cow, one ox and one other cow plus two swine. The livestock was valued at $35. He was again marked as producing 100 bushels of Indian corn.
The estate of Parker Barnes was administered on September 28th, 1868. Revel Justice, John Barnes and Thomas Barnes were the administrators of the estate. The Accomack County Death Register gives his date of death as only October 1868. It listed his age as 90 and stated his cause of death was "Disentary."
