Pemberton Claughton, III

Pemberton's father died in 1773. In his will he left Pemberton, III 50 acres of land that had been purchased from Thomas Myers that adjoined the land the Pemberton already lived on. The bequest was dependent on Pemberton, III making a deed of gift to his brother, Richard, for land in Richmond County to establish an estate. Pemberton, III also received one slave jointly with his brother Thomas. Pemberton Junior's will also revealed that he owned a mill in partnership with Pemberton, III. He gave his share of the mill and the slave that ran to mill to his wife.

Pemberton, III continued his military service into the Revolutionary War. In 1776 Captain Claughton pressed a boat belonging to William Lewis into service to assist the militia at the mouth of the Coan River, the boat was lost when an enemy fleet engaged them. On 10 March 1777, Pemberton took the oath for the Commission of the peace for Northumberland County. During the war he was noted as having his horse impressed for 15 days and providing 300 pounds of beef. Pemberton's name appeared on a 1782 county tax list. He died sometime soon after and his will was proven in Northumberland county on 11 July 1785.
