William Doggett was born in England in 1599. In 1626 he married Anne Langley. In 1636 their son, Benjamin, was born. Benjamin was baptized at St. Mary-Le-Tower church in Ipswich, Suffolk, England when he was just a few weeks old. Church records list William as a warden of the church that same year. Some records refer to William as a woolendraper, a merchant dealing in wool goods.

William wrote his will on October 12th, 1675 and added a codicil two days later. He named daughters; Susanna Spering, Avis Bright, Ann Jefferson, and the son of another deceased daughter named William Williams. He listed sons; Richard, William, Jefferson, and Benjamin. He named his "loving kinsmen Mr. John Doggett merchant and my loving son John Spering" as joint executors. The will also listed several grandchildren of his living children including William Doggett, son of Benjamin.

William died before May 2nd, 1676. On that date his will was proven. He asked to be buried decently in Whitechapel church yard. The church burned in the 1800s and was rebuilt. During the Blitz in WWII the church was destroyed and was not rebuilt.
