Esau Jacob
Esau Jacob >> Elizabeth Jacob >> Arthur Barnes >> James Barnes >> Susan Barnes >> Eddie Barnes >> Thelma Barnes >> Frances Franklin >> Mark DameronIn January of 1735 Esau witnessed the will of Clark Jacob.
Esau married on June 4th, 1741 to Elizabeth "Betty" Haggoman. She was the daughter of John Haggoman and Sarah Powell. They would go on to have at least five daughters.
Over the next several years Esau purchased several parts of land. On the deeds he was frequently referred to as a planter and he sometimes paid in part cash and part tobacco. He purchased 168 acres in 1741, 145 acres in 1742, 130 acres in 1745 and 150 acres in 1749.
Elizabeth apparently died before 1762. In November of that year Esau remarried to Vianna Pitts and had three more daughters.
Esau wrote his will on December 21st, 1774. He left his plantation "near the courthouse" to his wife Vianna along with six slaves until October of 1780 to use to raise his three youngest children. After that he ordered the plantation sold and the profit divided among his wife and daughters. To daughter Elizabeth he gave two slaves named Tom and Southy, a horse called Jones and second choice of bed and furniture. Elizabeth also received 150 pounds cash, a side saddle, spinning wheel and 25 pounds of husked flax. Esau was able to write his own name and sign his will.
I have found no records explaining the disposal of the rest of his acreage. Esau's will was presented in court on February 14th, 1775.
