John Jacob was born in Northampton County about 1675. He was the son of Philip Jacob and Martha. John married Mary about 1702 and had as many as nine children.

In 1712 John bought a parcel of land from his cousin, Abraham Jacob, that their grandfather, Richard Jacob had patented in 1661. John paid 5,000 pounds of tobacco for 150 acres. In 1715 John bought additional acreage from Abraham adjoining his earlier land purchase.

In 1713 John's father's will was proven in Northampton County court. He left his plantation first to his wife and then after her death to John. The parcels purchased from Abraham Jacob both adjoined the land John inherited from his father.

By the time John wrote his will in February of 1729 he had 650 acres to divvy up among his heirs. He left his plantation where he lived containing 200 acres first to his wife Mary and then their oldest son William. He left to Philip the first 150 acres that he had bought from Abraham Jacob. He gave another 150 acres to Esau on the east side of Philip's land. He left an additional 150 acres to son Isaac. John signed his will with a mark that resembles two E's back to back.

John's will was proven on February 10th, 1730.
