Philip Jacob was born in 1643 in Northampton, VA. He was the son of Richard Jacob the immigrant. His mother's name is unknown and she died about 1651 or 1652. Philip's father married secondly to Mary Clarke and had five more children.

Philip was named in his father's will in 1663. Richard Jacob left his plantation first to his wife but instructed that Philip should continue living there in the house called the "Stable." After Mary's death, Philip was the receive all of his father's dwelling plantation including 550 acres named in two patents issued in 1645 and 1650.

Philip married a woman named Martha about 1675 and they had five children, all sons. Philip's step-mother remarried at some point to Arthur Upshot or Upshur. Philip traded his 550 acres with Upshot in 1675 for 350 acres nearby. This 350 acre parcel was passed to his son, John.

Philip wrote his will on March 31, 1703 and it was proven on November 17th, 1713. Philip was able to write and signed his own will.

To my loving wife Martha during her life the plantation I now live on and then to my son John. My son John to remain on the plantation and not to disturb his said mother. For want of John's heirs to my son Richard, and for want of his heirs to my son Phillip, and for want of heirs to my son William, else to my son Benjamin. Remaining estate to my wife during her widowhood and then to be div. by my children.
