George Brent
George Brent >> Judith Brent >> Mary King >> Priscilla Doggett >> Ann Kent >> Anna Clark >> Apphia Sisson >> George Franklin >> Frances Franklin >> Mark DameronGeorge married to Judith Purcell about 1715. and had at least six children.
At a county court in 1715 George Brent stated that he took up a runaway slave named Red belonging to Thomas Glasscock of Richmond County and had not received any payment. In 1725 George along with James Pollard were appointed tobacco inspectors for the county. In 1730 he was named as a constable.
George wrote his will on July 6th, 1748. He gave all of his land to his son George and arranged for Charles and Lucy to stay on his plantation until they became of age. He also ordered additional furniture go to George, Charles and Lucy. He divided his slaves equally among his six children and also ordered that his stock of wheat be divided among them too. He left money for each of his daughters to buy a ring. George left his gun and pistol to his son George and asked that his clothing be divided between Thomas and George. George Brent was able to write and sign his own will. His wife, Judith, was not mentioned in his will and must have predeceased him.
George's will was proven in Lancaster County Court in August of 1748. An inventory of his estate was recorded in September and listed 19 slaves, lots of livestock and household furniture. The division of the estate was not finalized until June of 1749.
