John Haggoman
John Haggoman >> Elizabeth Haggoman >> Elizabeth Jacob >> Arthur Barnes >> James Barnes >> Susan Barnes >> Eddie Barnes >> Thelma Barnes >> Frances Franklin >> Mark DameronJohn married to Sarah Powell on July 20th, 1720 in Northampton. They went on to have four children. Sarah owned at least 400 acres of land in Northampton County at the time of their marriage, including a 350 acre on the southside of the mouth of Hungars Creek.
Isaac Haggoman died in 1728 and left use of his orchards for 12 years to John.
At some point John acquired lands south of the plantation Sarah inherited from her father. In 1736 his assigned 150 acres of this property to his son William. At John's the death the rest of the land there passed to his son, John Haggoman, Jr. It appears that Sarah's father's land was sold in 1735.
John wrote his will on April 15th, 1763. He left six slaves to his son John. He left one slave to granddaughter Sarah Jacob and one slave to be shared by granddaughters Elizabeth and Susannah Jacob (daughters of his daughter Elizabeth who predeceased him). John left a mill and adjoining land to his daughter Sarah and her husband Samuel Williams. John instructed that after the death of his wife his daughter Sarah should receive half of his estate and sons John and William each get one quarter.
John's will was proven on January 10th, 1764. An inventory of his estate was taken three days later. In addition to livestock and farm tools the inventory showed ten slaves. The division on John's estate was completed on July 10th, 1765.
