John King was born about 1706 in Lancaster County. He was the son of William King and Lycia. Hi's father's will was recorded in Lancaster County court in 1716 and he left "Land on both sides of Mill Swamp" to John.

John married Judith Brent around 1730. She was the daughter of George Brent and Judith Purcell. They had two sons and a daughter.

John wrote his will on March 2nd, 1752 and stated that he was "sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory." The will was proven in court on the 19th of June that same year. He left his estate first to his wife during her widowhood and expressed wishes that their children be brought up in a "Christian manner" and with "proper schooling." To his son John he ordered 100 pounds sterling when he turned 21 to be used to purchase land. He gave 20 shillings to his daughter to buy a ring. Next he instructed that his slaves, livestock and household goods be divided among all three of his children after the death or marriage of his wife Judith and named three slaves to be sold in order to repay his debts. John was able to write and sign his name.

An inventory and appraisal was made of John's estate in December of 1752, fourteen different slaves were named. Other items included a large amount of livestock with two pairs of yoke oxen and a gray mare, a Bailey's Dictionary (first printed in London, 1721), six other books and a parcel or loose papers. The total value of the estate was 641 pounds 6 pence and 6 3/4 shillings.
