Joseph Melson >> Elizabeth Melson >> John Barnes >> Arthur Barnes >> James Barnes >> Susan Barnes >> Eddie Barnes >> Thelma Barnes >> Frances Franklin >> Mark Dameron
Joseph married about 1710 to Elizabeth Middleton. In 1715 George Middleton presented a deed of gift to his son-in-law for 180 acres of land in Accomack.
On April 7th, 1713 Peter Ease filed a complaint that his wife Margaret had taken up with Joseph Melson, a married man, and was living with him.
Joseph and Elizabeth had six children together before her death in about 1720. Before 1722 Joseph remarried to a woman named Ann and had three additional children.
Joseph made his will on April 10th, 1747. In his will Joseph referred to himself as a planter. He left his plantation and half of his land to son George. The rest of his estate he left to his wife Anne during her widowhood and at her marriage or death to be divided between his sons Samuel and Isaac. Additionally to Isaac he left a bed, furniture and carpenter tools. To children Middleton Melson, Joseph Melson, William Melson, Elizabeth Barns and Arcadia Ball he left "nothing more than they have already received from me."
Joseph's will was partially proven in Accomack court on May 28th, 1751. Final probate was March 6th 1754.
