Joan married Francis Stockley about 1636 in Accomack County about the same time Francis had received a patent there. Francis became a successful tobacco planter and they had three children.
Francis wrote his will in December 1655 and it was probated the following month. He left Joan their plantation and the best bed, curtains and valance in addition to three cows and four steers.
Joan remarried soon after Francis' death to Captain William Custis (1633-1698). They had three additional children.
Joan died about 1668. In 1672 William Custis made a deed of gift for 300 acres of land in Metompkin, Accomack County to William and Francis Sacker. They were the heirs of Edward Sacker who had married Frances Stockley (Custis' stepdaughter).
